About The Workshop
So I've been wondering how I would structure this class, and it came to me- I'm going to let the student structure it!
This is different than any other workshop we offer. The student will be responsible for bringing the glass substrate. We will provide instruction, adhesive and materials for this open studio style project. If there's something I've learned in the 15+ years of teaching mosaics, it's that students work at their own pace, everyone has a different level of detail in their work and sometimes they just need a little nudge to get going. We will work using a picture underneath the glass, so when you pick your substrate (what you glue your mosaic tesserae to), think about what design you'd like to use and bring photocopies with you or email me to print them out. The substrate can be as big as you like, but there's a caveat: Class price includes studio time and materials for class day only. If you'd like to finish up at home, you can purchase additional materials to take home. If you'd like to finish up in Wednesday Open Studios there will be a studio time/materials fee.
New to mosaics? This isn't necessarily an advanced class, but mosaic experience would be helpful. There will be a lecture about different adhesives and what might work better if you use transparent stained glass versus opaque glass or tile. We will talk about different techniques for specific effects when cutting and nipping. We have an unprecedented range of colors right now in the studio student section, so the sky's the limit for design possibilities! Maybe a colorful abstract or landscape? I know the first thing students will ask- Can I do a pet portrait? I would suggest easing into this medium first before tackling any kind of portrait. If you have been to a pet portrait class, you know the first several hours (or even the first entire day) is focusing on the eyes alone. Maybe you've taken Elizabeth's class and would like to do another Pet Portrait, then I say go for it! I'm happy to help with design advice to help you get going. Once registered, please contact me if you need advice on selecting your substrate.
Pricing includes processing fees. If you'd like to avoid fees or are uncomfortable paying online, call the studio to save your spot and register with Cash- Check or Zelle. COST: $120 Cash/Check/Zelle / $127 Credit or Debit Card
