Intro to Mosaics in Mortar

I renamed this one, because it was confusing for students new to this technique. It used to be called Intro to Smalti, but the technique of using mortar is the most important aspect of this class!

Taking our mosaics to the next level, owner and mosaic artist Katie Packham leads students through creating a mixed media mosaic project with the direct set method using tinted mortar and wedi board as the substrate. The best thing about this class? No grouting! And through a generous gift to the studio, we are able to take advantage of a rainbow selection of SMALTI to use in our project. Although andamento will be explored using smalti, we will also discuss incorporating other materials into the project. Class will cover use of wedi board, tinting your mortar, prepping of the substrate and various techniques to create a successful mixed media project.
