About The Workshop
We are excited to host Seattle mosaic artist Kelley Knickerbocker for a double header October 17/18th and 19/20th.
Kickassiette: Blowing the Lid off Crockery Mosaic is Saturday/Sunday, October 19/20th, 10am-5pm each day.
Picassiette is the process of transforming crockery and found objects into mosaic. What makes crockery so tempting and ideal for mosaic is not only its availability, ease of cutting, and varied glazes, but its unique curvatures, bumps and protrusions that translate to gorgeous dimensionality in tesserae. In this technique-rich workshop, we’ll ramp picassiette up an innovative notch with unexpected methods of cutting/setting not only the flat surfaces of plates and other ceramic ware, but the lips, feet, rims, handles, lids, spouts, and the inner clay body. Students will learn cutting tools and techniques; setting in mortar to maximize sculptural/dimensional possibilities; building a cohesive color/material palette, and composing with crockery’s challenging curves and bumps. If you are making this a double header, think of Line, Shape and Space as the why and Kickasiette as the what/how. These are both stand alone classes, but combined create a cohesive package of theory and implentation.
Cost for this workshop is $395 ($345 if you also register for the Thursday/Friday Line, Shape and Space: Abstract workshop)
