Line, Shape, and Space: Abstract Design for Mosaic

We are excited to host Seattle mosaic artist Kelley Knickerbocker for a double header October 17/18th and 19/20th. 

Line, Shape, and Space: Abstract Design is Thursday/Friday, October 17/18, 10am-5pm each day.

Abstract design can be intimidating, and more than a little confusing. Where does one begin to decide where the energy, weight, or balance of an artwork will be without relying on images from objective reality? How do we express meaning, emotion, movement and story with just line, shape and space? Using the basic principles of art and design, as well as specific functions of line and shape in design, we’ll explore creating relationship and narrative in basic lines and shapes and how they occupy space. Templates abound, and if you tend to overthink, never fear, we’ll do some fun exercises to inject spontaneity into our compositions. And as we explore a technique bridge between representational and non-objective design, you may realize you’re already creating abstract! You’ll discover that even the simplest design framework of line and shape can be brought to rich, complex life by the lush texture, value and rhythm of mosaic. If you are making this a doubleheader with Kickassiette on Saturday/Sunday, think of this one as the why and Kickasiette as the what/how. These are both standalone classes, but combined create a cohesive package of theory and implentation

Cost for this workshop is $395 ($345 if you also register for the Saturday/Sunday workshop Kickassiette)
